19th Scientific Meeting: 11am - 5pm (cont'd: 20th, 9am - 11am)
20th Stakeholder Information Event: 11.30am - 3pm
The first day of the meeting is dedicated to an internal discussion of the scientific tasks of the project. An agenda will be send to the project partners prior to the meeting.
We would like to invite interested stakeholder groups to participate in an information and open discussion meeting about the scientific and technical programme that will be conducted by the European research project “MiningImpact - Environmental impacts and risks of deep-sea mining” in association with the ISA contractors DEME-GSR and BGR.
In spring 2019 DEME’s pre-prototype vehicle for harvesting polymetallic nodules will be tested in the Belgian and German contract areas of the Clarion Clipperton Fracture Zone. This will be the first realistic industrial trial of its kind in the deep sea.
The research project MiningImpact will assess the environmental impacts of this test, employing state-of-the-art scientific tools on a cruise with RV SONNE in February-May 2019.
